I have tried dozens of bread recipes over the last few months. None of them met my expectations. They were all too time consuming and never turned out how I wanted. When I finally came across this one and tried it out, I loved it! It is simple to make and makes two loaves! The bread is super soft and has such a wonderful taste. I enjoy it the most right after it comes out of the oven with a little butter on it, delicious!
Sandwich Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 Cups warm water
- 1/4 Cup honey (Local honey is always best but any honey will work)
- 1 TBSP or 1 package of dry active yeast
- 5 Cups of flour
- 2 TSP Salt
- 1 TSP Baking Soda
- 2 TBSP Melted butter
Instructions:
- Combine your warm water (Slightly warmer than luke-warm but not hot enough that you can not touch it!), honey, and yeast. Stir to combine and let sit for 10-15 minutes to bloom. You will know it is ready once it is nice and foamy.
- Add in your salt, baking soda, and melted butter and stir.
- Sift 4.5 cups of your flour and slowly add it into your mixture until it forms a sticky dough.
- Cover your bowl of dough with a cloth and let rise for one hour.
- After one hour, with the remaining 1/2 Cup of flour, flour a hard surface and dump your dough out. Sprinkle some of the flour on top of your dough and knead for 3-5 minutes.
- Cut your dough into two equal portions. Flatten each portion into a rectangle shaped piece and roll it up.
- Take your two loaf pans and butter or grease them well. Place your loaves into your pans, cover and allow to rise for another hour.
- Preheat oven to 375ºF and bake for 30 minutes.
- Let cool for 20-30 minutes and enjoy!
